Spencer has been a commercial still life photographer and active stock photographer for over fifteen years. A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Jones began working as a photographer in New York City, after attending Randolph College in Asheboro, North Carolina. He honed his skills assisting such luminaries as Robert Mapplethorpe and Annie Leibovitz in the 1980’s. Since striking out on his own in 1992, he has shot for various magazines and corporations, including L’Oreal, FedEx, American Express, and Tag Heuer. Editorially, Spencer’s work has spanned a wide range of magazines, including Marie Claire, InStyle and Harper’s Bazaar, as well as Field and Stream and New York Times Magazine. Recently, Spencer shot the cover for Time magazine’s prestigious “Person of the Year” issue. He has also exhibited his photography at The Nikon House, The Kodak Gallery, The Tisch Gallery and was highlighted in the book "Best of Photography", Advertising Photographers of America; and featured in Nikon World Magazine.

 

Spencer is also a major contributor to various stock photo agencies worldwide, including Getty Images,  (NonStock, Food Picks and Botanica), StockFood as well as Glasshouse Images, where he is the founder and principal. Currently, Spencer divides his time between his commercial photography career and managing Glasshouse Images.
